What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a deeply relaxing complementary therapy, based on the principle that reflexes in the feet, hands and ears correspond to every organ, gland and part of the body.

Reflexology is a very individual treatment which works holistically. The theory is that reflexology helps the body to restore its natural balance. Following a treatment, you may find that you feel extremely relaxed and that tension may be reduced. Reflexology aids relaxation which helps to balance emotions, is an antidote to stress and promotes restful sleep. You might notice yourself sleeping better and find your mood and sense of well-being improved.

Reflexology is non-invasive so is a very safe treatment and can be used to treat most conditions. People who have not yet experienced the healing benefits and relaxation that reflexology can bring find it hard to believe that something so enjoyable can be so good for you!

Why Reflexology?

Reflexology has many health benefits. One of the key benefits is the lowering of stress levels as the body enters a deeply relaxed state. Managing stress levels plays a key role in maintaining overall good health.

Perhaps one of the main benefits of reflexology is the importance of 'me' time for the client.

Investing in some time regularly to de-stress and STOP is hugely beneficial in the long term to our overall health on a mental, physical and emotional level.

How Reflexology works

Pressure is exerted on these reflexes by the thumbs and fingers, combined with massage, relaxation and gentle joint mobilisation techniques. Reflexology can be applied to the feet and/or the hands.

Reflexology allows the body to go into a deeply relaxed state, imparting a sense of well-being.

Crystal-like deposits of waste products, usually calcium and uric acid, gather around nerve endings on the foot. The Reflexologist may feel tightness or congestion in these reflex areas. A swelling or 'puffy' appearance indicates possible problems in the related zone. Sometimes a sensation like popping' 'bubble wrap' is felt by the therapist as the area is worked. Working on a point helps disperse the crystals and stimulate circulation so the 'Lymph System' can more easily eliminate them. This helps to detoxify the body.
